Harriet Brewing Beers!

Harriet Brewing specializes in Belgian craft beers and German-style lagers.

Available All Year Long
West Side - Belgian-style IPA

With the single hop cone symbolizing the bright freshness of a new beginning and the bitterness of uncertainty, share in the view across the shimmering waters of Lake Harriet. Follow along towards the lakefront Band Shell, downtown Minneapolis, and the horizon towards the future.

West Side Belgian-Syle IPA symbolizes the beginning of Harriet Brewing. After years of home brewing and a new path being laid before him, Jason Sowards started Harriet Brewing in his basement garage on the west side of Lake Harriet. Not to be drowned in a sea of IPA’s, West Side was designed to stand out as something different – a beer that focused on balance. With a nod to the neighborhood and a balanced blend of water, barley, yeast, and hops, West Side was born.

West Side is an eclectic ale brewed to balance the brightest West Coast hops with a prolific Belgian yeast strain. It pours light copper with white head. Its subtle malt gives way to a fruity, citrusy, and slightly spicy aroma and flavor. The medium-bodied West Side is snappy and leaves your palate refreshed.

Fall / Winter Beers

Divine Oculust - Belgian-style Golden Strong

The Divine Eye looks upon the unification of man and woman in the glow of the sun. The subtle floral and fruit spirit of the strong golden ale harmonizes with its lusty alcohol level creating a beer that unifies all drinkers. Let the perspectives of the Divine Oculust flow through you like a rushing river of golden ale through a ravine.

Our Belgian-style Golden Strong Ale pours golden with a persistent white head. Classic banana, light fruitiness, subtle spice and alcohol flavors derived from yeast are complimented with an abundance of noble hops which enhance the light fruity character and contribute a pleasant floral note. Divine Oculust is medium-light bodied and deceptively easy to drink for its strength.

Dark Abbey - Belgian-style Dubbel

You walk through a dark abbey towards a stained glass window depicting a goblet of Belgian Dubbel, a beer that Trappist monks perfected and one we have come to love. The darkness of the passage reflects the dark Belgian candi sugar and crystal malts which give the beer its deep auburn color. The stained glass portrays the bright flavors layered within. Pleasant fruitiness and subtle spiciness mingle with ease creating a beer that leaves you fulfilled and refreshed, much like your experience in that peaceful dark abbey.

Our Belgian-Style Dubbel pours deep ruby-brown with an off-white head. Classic banana notes coupled with rum-raisin and dried fruit flavors are complimented by subtle spiciness from the yeast.  This beer is full of flavor yet finishes clean and dry.

Harriet Brewing's Elevator Doppelbock Elevator - Doppelbock

Harriet’s Elevator soars through layers of flavor like the refraction of light from a setting sun entering the atmosphere.  Take in the view of Minneapolis, as you are elevated above the earth and past the intertwined constellations of Capricorn (the goat) and Aquarius (Harriet Brewing). Elevate your mind, body and soul.

Elevator Doppelbock is traditionally brewed using the decoction method and is lagered for two months. This beer is rich and malt driven, with characteristics of dark fruit and caramel supported by a light toastiness and just enough bitterness from the hops to keep it balanced. Elevator is hearty, yet clean and complex. It’s tempting to make this a daily ration of liquid bread… you know, to honor the monks.

Spring/Summer Beers – Available Spring of 2012

Saison Nourrice
Traditionally brewed for farmhands during hot summer months, this Belgian farmhouse-style ale greets drinkers with notes of orange marmalade and black pepper. Floral/spicy hop character is subtle and balanced throughout. Munich malt lends a yellow-orange hue and contributes character to the vanilla malt backdrop. Harriet's Nourrice is clean, yet complex, with a dry, light yeasty finish that goes and goes.

Wodan Weizen
Wodan Weizen is our Hefeweizen. It pours a hazy straw color with a frothy white head. Pronounced notes of banana and clove are accompanied by subtle citrus and graham cracker maltiness. Floral hops hide deep in the background to make this a refreshing summer brew without the bitterness.

Limited Time Only Beer - Available September 2012

Rauchfest
Rauchfest is our German-Style Smoked Lager. It celebrates Oktoberfest the Harriet way, with a smoldering savoriness! The 50% beechwood-smoked malt and tinge of noble hop character contribute a balanced layer of complexity to this toasty brew. The drink is medium-bodied with a moderately dry finish.
